Boring Tools

The LEUCO Drill Bit program offers the right Boring Tools for each application, no matter if you drill through holes, dowel holes, step holes or cup holes.

Holes play a central role in furniture making: They allow for the assembly of a furniture, they ensure the precise fit of the components to each other, they facilitate the mounting of fittings and fixtures. The LEUCO Drill Bit program offers the right drill bit for each application, no matter if you drill through holes, dowel holes, step holes or cup holes.

For the most part we drill three types of holes:

  • Blind or construction type holes – where a brad point is most common
  • Through Hole – where we would use a v-point or through hole drill
  • Hinge or Fitting holes – where a cylinder drill is used

As the materials we drill in have changed vastly so have the options for drills expanded. At one time, carbide brad point dowel drills were only available in one design. Today LEUCO offers 7 types of which some are carbide tipped and some are solid carbide.

Why So Many Boring Options?

We know it sounds crazy – why so many? Well, the design is different to deal with specific materials or issues in the application. For example, take a particleboard panel that has been laminated with paper. Often the panel has the clear plastic protective film. When drilling for shelf pins the plastic overlay welds itself to the lip of the hole, and when removed it takes some paper with it leaving a bad looking hole. The LEUCO Mosquito in solid carbide eliminates this issue thanks to a unique drill tip grind. Less cutting force equals less heat, equals clean cut paper fibers and no welding or melting.

These days, it’s all about High Performance.

LEUCO HP solid carbide drills have a very unique grind and have been able to achieve edge life increases 20-30X longer than typical standard carbide tipped drills. In addition, the same drill can be used for both brad point and through hole drilling operations. The HP drills cut with extremely low cutting force. If you work in very dense materials or have issue with parts moving this one for you.

LEUCO also offers a High-Performance Cylinder drill also known as “Light” which also cuts with extremely low forces. It leaves a very flat hole bottom and can drill very close to the panel or door face without damage to the face. All High-Performance Drills including the Mosquito and Light cylinder drill are fully resharpenable and can be ground back to their original shape for consistent performance.
